WHY INVEST WITH US
Experience the Advisor Difference
Advisor Financial Services offers a local, professional alternative to the big house investment firms. Here are seven questions
our clients found helpful when looking for a financial advisor and a company to invest with.
What are the primary services you provide?
We offer a comprehensive range of services, including investment management and rebalancing to keep your portfolio aligned with your goals, as well as tax planning and preparation to strengthen your overall financial strategy. Our expertise encompasses traditional and Roth IRAs, educational accounts such as 529 Plans, and financial planning to build a clear roadmap for your future. Through our partnership with Charles Schwab, you gain convenient access to your funds with free checking and debit card options, along with guidance to navigate the tax implications of your financial decisions confidently.
Which Custodian/Broker do you use?
We partner with Charles Schwab Advisory Services to provide you with professional peace of mind and security for your investments. Schwab’s comprehensive security measures help protect your funds from theft, allowing you to invest with confidence. Their efficient back-office interface and dedicated support team enable us to deliver seamless service tailored to your needs.
Additionally, we maintain an RIA relationship with Capital Group, also known as American Funds, which offers Virginia’s 529 plans and serves as a valuable resource for employers interested in providing self-directed SIMPLE IRAs for their employees.
Are the investment reports clear and easy to understand?
While many brokers only send a standard account statement that can make it difficult to gauge performance, AFS goes a step further. Each quarter, we provide a clear, easy-to-read investment performance report alongside the statement you receive from Charles Schwab. We also offer regular meetings to review your portfolio and address any questions, ensuring you remain informed and confident in your financial strategy.
How often do we meet together?
Our meetings are tailored to suit each client’s unique needs. While some clients find that an annual review is sufficient, others prefer more frequent check-ins. We are flexible and committed to serving you in the way that works best for you. Our ideal client is one who trusts us and feels comfortable asking questions.
In a typical meeting, we review your financial goals, discuss any relevant investment adjustments, and address any questions or concerns. We bring a steady, experienced approach to investing, designed to support your long-term financial success.
Do you act as my fiduciary in all aspects of our relationship?
Yes. As both a CPA and CFP, we uphold rigorous ethical standards, serving as fiduciaries in all our professional services. This commitment means we always act in your best interest, prioritizing your needs above our own. Every investment or strategy we recommend is carefully chosen to align with your goals and support your financial well-being. Additionally, we do not receive any commissions from investment recommendations or planning referrals, ensuring our guidance remains unbiased and solely focused on your success.
Is your Financial Advisor registered or licensed?
AFS is a Registered Investment Advisor with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). David Luck, who holds an MBA, is both a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). As a CPA and CFP, David adheres to a high standard of expertise and ethics, and he is required to complete 40 hours of continuing education each year to stay at the forefront of industry knowledge and best practices.
What do you charge for your services?
As a fee-only planner, we are not restricted to recommending commission-based investment products. Our clients’ portfolios may include Mutual Funds, ETFs, Stocks, Bonds, and Structured Notes. Our fees are generally structured as a percentage of the assets we manage. We also provide additional services, such as Tax Planning, Preparation, and specific financial planning engagements, with fees starting at $175 per hour and adjusted based on the scope and level of responsibility involved. We are happy to discuss our fees openly. Most importantly, we do not accept commissions or referral fees, ensuring that our guidance is always aligned with your best interests.
