Frequently Asked Questions

Below are clear and concise answers to common investment questions we receive, helping you make

informed decisions and navigate the complexities of building a strong financial portfolio.

What types of investments might I find in my portfolio?

Through our relationship with Charles Schwab Advisory Services, our clients have access to a wide range of investment options, including mutual funds, Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), U.S. markets and stock exchanges, corporate and municipal bonds, as well as a new investment solution called Structured Notes. As an independent, registered investment advisory firm, we provide fee-only advice. We are not brokers and do not work for Charles Schwab.

If an investment is not doing well, will AFS sell it?

Yes, we regularly review investments. If any are underperforming relative to expectations, we will replace them within the portfolio to ensure alignment with your financial goals.

Does Charles Schwab charge a fee to open an account?

No, there are no fees charged by Charles Schwab to open an account.

What is the minimum amount required to open an account?

There is no minimum to open an account. However, many investments have a minimum purchase size between $1,000 and $2,500. While you may open the account with any balance, until the account reaches $2,000, the selection of investments we can invest in is limited.  Some of the services our firm provides are based on the value of the investments under management.
